Lawn advice

We all love a bit of sun, sand and sea but the weather back home is always miserable, wet weather boosts plant growth so when you get back and unpack your bags you’re greeted with a forest of a lawn.

Sometimes the biggest problem is the mower you use and many cylinder mowers can have rollers which causes problems by flattening the grass before the blades can cut it. Some people remove the roller assembly and control the height of the grass with pressure applied downwards on the handles.
A common mistake is to try and cut the grass too short too quickly, the grass should ideally only be cut by a third of the total length at any one time to avoid weakening and killing the grass. Although it may be tempting to cut it all at once, it is worth being patient. Trimming a small quantity off will also make it easier and mean you don’t have to empty the trimmings every length of the garden.
It is a good idea to keep the grass clippings off the grass to avoid hindering the growth so clearing them is advised. When the grass is cut you need to apply a liquid feed with a watering can to help re-establish and preserve it. The grass may discolour a few days after the first cut and the feed will help counteract this.
Your next step is to inspect the lawn for weeds, if there isn’t many it’s fine to use a weed stick to kill them but if there are lots all around the lawn a weed killing spray can be the best method. This is a good practice to keep throughout the year but especially after mowing the lawn for the first time in a while.
If bare patches have developed on your lawn it may be worth reseeding it using some form of rapid lawn seed to get it to match the rest of the grass.

Getting locked out of a home or small business can happen at any time. It can be all too easy to step outside the door, forgetting to unlock it. In this situation, you have some choices: you can break a window, and climb through, like a thief, leaving yourself in need of emergency window repair; or, you can call a locksmith.

The same is true of losing your car keys, which can easily happen after a night of fun out on the town. In this case, a professional locksmith can come to you, 24 hours a day, letting you back into your car without damaging the locks, scratching the windows with hangers, or breaking anything, as you might do trying to jimmy open the door on your own.

There are also more serious times when you might find yourself needing an emergency locksmith service in a hurry. For example, if your home is broken into, if your purse (or partners purse) is lost, with the keys and identification inside, or if you get into a serious disagreement with someone to whom you have previously given a key. In these instances, you should immediately call an experienced, licensed locksmith, and have your locks rekeyed. While you are at it, ask the locksmith to key the entire house to a single key; this will make life easier in the future, using the same key to enter the front or back door, and even the garage, perhaps keying it the same as your cottage, for added convenience.
